'The designer does not begin with some preconceived idea. Rather, the idea is the result of careful study and observation, and the design a product of that idea.' - Paul Rand
At Chapelford, we believe pupils need to develop design and making skills through an encouraging and engaging learning environment. To do this, they need to have a knowledge and understanding of the characteristics of a range of materials and tools. They need to understand the designing process, including evaluating existing products, designing their own and evaluating completed projects. At Chapelford, children will:
- develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world
- build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users
- critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others
- understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook
Our Curriculum Statement outlines our INTENT, how we will IMPLEMENT our curriculum and what IMPACT this will have on our Designers at Chapelford Village Primary School.
