Computing
'Everyone should know how to program a computer, because it teaches you how to think!' - Steve Jobs
In line with the National Curriculum for Computing, we aim to provide a high-quality computing education which equips children to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. The children will learn key knowledge about how computers and computer systems work, and how things are designed and programmed.
In an increasingly digital world there now exists a wealth of software, tools and technologies that can be used to communicate, collaborate, express ideas and create digital content. At Chapelford Village Primary we recognise that pupils are entitled to a broad and balanced computing education with a structured, progressive, approach to learning how computer systems work, the use of IT and the skills necessary to become digitally literate and participate fully in the modern world.
Our Curriculum Statement outlines our INTENT, how we will IMPLEMENT our curriculum and what IMPACT this will have on our Programmers and Technicians at Chapelford Village Primary School.

Online Safety at Chapelford Village Primary School
At Chapelford Village Primary, we appreciate the importance of the internet as a learning tool for children today. It provides them with fantastic opportunities to access a wide range of educational tools, communicate with friends and investigate the world around them. However, there is also content available that is not suitable for children and there are risks that children face when they are accessing the internet. We hope that the information provided will help to keep your children safe and ensure they use technology, including mobile phones responsibility.
Do take a look at our useful Parent Guides section which offers wider guidance about websites, apps and social media channels.
Weekly Online Safety lessons
All children at Chapelford Village Primary School have weekly E-safety lessons as part of our computing curriculum. They cover topics such as creating strong passwords, how much time we spend online, our digital footprints and cyberbullying. Every year all children participate within Safer Internet Day which falls on the second Tuesday in February. This offers the children the opportunity to re-visit previous e-safety topics and to promote discussion about how to use the internet and technology safely and responsibly.
KidSafe UK Accredited School
Chapelford Village Primary is proud to be a KidSafe accredited school. Children in Year 1 are introduced to the KidSafe training by their teachers who deliver the fully inclusive safeguarding program. The program covers a wide range of topics including understanding feelings and cyber safety through games, scenarios and meeting 'KS' the monkey puppet. The program aims to promote children's resilience, to reinforce that speaking out is the right thing to do and to feel empowered to speak out if they feel sad, scared or worried. Parents are informed when these lessons begin and the content of these to support further discussions at home.
Internet Safe Filtering and Monitoring
Our school has a system, provided by the central Omega Multi Academy Trust ICT Team. This will block all traffic that comes through the school's network, including the school's wireless router, that is classified as inappropriate, according to an international classification system. This includes classifications in multiple languages and images, covering a range of material, including extremism. The Trust will monitor internet access by receiving reports on the most blocked websites from the school network and investigating and assessing the greatest risks and concerns.
In school we have appropriate filters to keep our children safe online whilst they learn. Due to the wide variety of technology available at our children's fingertips we feel it is also important to share information on how to keep children safe whilst they access technology at home. Many broadband and WiFi providers offer filters to limit inappropriate content but these filters usually have to be set manually. This link to Internet Matters provides information and step by step videos on how to set up appropriate parental controls for a variety of providers.
Below you will find a wide range of up to date Parent Guides that link to a variety of E-Safety topics from the National Online Safety website.
We have selected a range of guides however you can find the full range available at: https://nationalonlinesafety.com/guides
These guides provide PEGI ratings for the different apps and suggest how you can set up privacy settings to ensure your child is safe online at all times.
