Learning in Action: A Glimpse into Our Wider Curriculum

As we approach the end of term, and the end of a fantastic academic year, we wanted to take a moment to celebrate the exciting, varied learning taking place across school. This term, children have been bringing together the knowledge and skills they have developed throughout their enquiry-based curriculum to complete final projects and outcomes. These have been a brilliant reflection of their curiosity and creativity.
Our curriculum is carefully designed to build subject knowledge and vocabulary over time, while encouraging children to think deeply, ask questions and apply their learning in meaningful ways. Here’s just a small snapshot of what has been happening across school:
Year 1
Our budding artists in Year 1 have been researching, designing, and making their own sculptures! They explored different ways of joining materials, including split pins, glue, tape, folds and traditional joins, to construct their final pieces. The results were full of personality and creativity!
Year 3
Class 11 have been getting hands-on in science by designing and making their own toys using magnets. Using their knowledge of how magnets attract and repel different materials, they created innovative and interactive designs. Elsewhere in Year 3, children have been getting to grips with ICT. They each logged on using their unique username and password, learned how to create and type into a Word document and even practised using the shift key for capital letters. Everyone was incredibly focused and proud to save their first piece of digital work; a great step as they get ready for Year 4!
Year 4
Year 4 recently headed outdoors to carry out fieldwork in Dakota Park. The children explored how green spaces in our local community are used. Working in groups and supported by their teachers, they made real-world observations and gathered data, bringing their geography learning to life. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect classroom learning with the world around them.
Year 5
This week, Year 5 have had a taste of high school maths! Visiting teachers from Great Sankey High School led sessions where pupils were introduced to scientific calculators and shown how to solve more advanced calculations. It was a brilliant opportunity to stretch their thinking and build confidence in preparation for the next steps in their learning journey.
We are so proud of how our children have applied themselves this term - not just in the classroom, but through every part of our curriculum. Their final projects are a wonderful reminder of how much they have grown as learners and thinkers over the year.
Keep an eye out for more examples of their fantastic work in upcoming Facebook posts.
