What's been happening this week around school?
As we approach the end of another busy half term, we wanted to share an update on the fantastic learning that has been taking place across the school. The children have been working hard, and it's been wonderful to see their progress in a variety of subjects.
All the children are excited to be singing for the upcoming Festive Greetings performances, which will take place over the next couple of weeks. It has been lovely to hear the sound of Christmas carols and songs filling the school, spreading festive cheer and showcasing the children’s hard work and enthusiasm.
EYFS Update:
The children in EYFS have been busy preparing for the Nativity, learning the lyrics to the songs and remembering their lines. On Wednesday, they had an exciting experience practising on the stage for the first time! Christmas-themed activities are in full swing, including making wish lists, dough reindeers, and gingerbread men. The role play area has a special post office set up for the children to deliver Christmas cards and presents. Teachers are very proud to see the children using their capacity skills independently in the provision.
Year 1 Update:
In Year 1, the children have been introduced to their new text, The Jolly Postman. They received a letter from the Postman himself, explaining his daily tasks and the different characters he meets. In Maths, they have been creating ‘Wanted Posters’ for the naughty 2D shapes, including the fun and memorable tri-guy! The children are also working hard on their Festive Greetings performance, practising songs like ‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day’.
Year 2 Update:
Year 2 have been exploring the themes of family, relationships, and identity through the text And Tango Makes Three. They’ve learned about Roy and Silo, penguins in a zoo, and linked this to their Science learning on life cycles, specifically the life cycle of a penguin. They’ve also discussed the thoughts and feelings in the story and made comparisons to the family of Plop in The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark. The children will be describing their own families and creating instructions on how to be the perfect penguin family or the best family in the world!
Year 3 Update:
In Year 3, the children have been creating personal montages in Computing, including elements they want to highlight about themselves. They edited the montages, added soundtracks using the Clips app, and shared them on the camera roll. It’s been a fun way for the children to learn more about each other while exploring digital skills!
Year 4 Update:
Year 4 are excited for the festive season and their upcoming Festive Greetings performance. They’ve enjoyed playing the glockenspiels and linking their music learning to their Science topic on sound. They’ve been investigating how to make and observe different sounds and vibrations on instruments. The children are thrilled to have an audiologist coming next week to further enhance their understanding of sound and how it connects to real-world experiences.
Year 5 Update:
This term, Year 5 have been thoroughly enjoying their brass lessons. They have been learning how to play different notes on their instruments and are also working on reading sheet music. It’s been great to see their musical skills develop as they gain confidence in playing and understanding the instruments. In English, the children have been writing alternative endings to a story, using The Lost Happy Endings as inspiration. They have enjoyed exploring the character traits of heroes and villains and delving into the themes within the text. The children are also busy preparing for their upcoming Festive Greetings next week and have loved getting into the Christmas spirit, making this a truly festive time of year!
Year 6 Update:
In Year 6, the children have been studying non-fiction texts about endangered and extinct animals. They’ve debated the author’s views, questioning opposing opinions and using research to create their own non-fiction reports. One of their projects is a report on the kakapo, a bird native to New Zealand. The children are excited to share their findings and are looking forward to further research on other endangered animals.
