Year 3 had an exciting and action-packed week, full of hands-on learning about plants and the natural world!  Last week, Classes 10 and 11 visited RHS Garden Bridgewater on Monday, with Class 12 following on Thursday, as part of their Science topic on plants, their life cycles and the different parts of a plant.

During their visit, the children participated in a series of engaging workshops. They began by learning all about seed dispersal, discovering the different ways seeds travel in nature. Each child then had the opportunity to plant their own lettuce seed, which they will take home and care for, observing how it grows over time. The children also investigated an oak tree, considering how acorns are dispersed, particularly by squirrels, and thought carefully about how plants and animals interact in nature.

After the workshops, the children explored the beautiful gardens, using their observation skills to spot interesting and unusual plants. They created detailed sketches of the plants they found, demonstrating not only artistic skill but also their growing scientific knowledge. The day ended with a well-deserved break in the play area, giving everyone time to relax after a busy day. Throughout the visit, the children were a credit to Chapelford, fully engaging in the workshops, asking thoughtful questions and impressing staff with how much they could recall and apply from their Science lessons.

Year 3 have shown incredible curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm this week, fully immersing themselves in learning about plants, wildlife, and the natural world. It has been wonderful to see them apply their classroom knowledge in a real-world setting and take such pride in their learning. Well done, Year 3!
