The formal teaching of MFL is introduced to children in KS2. It is our intention to broaden our children's minds and make them aware of other languages, cultures and traditions. Our MFL learning is planned and sequenced to equip pupils for further language learning, to enable them to express themselves in another language and to develop their skills in all four areas of language learning (reading, writing, speaking and listening) By introducing and exposing our children to another language, they will have a deepened ability to show respect and play a valuable part in our global society, showing tolerance and welcoming diversity. To achieve this end point we aim to, through our MFL curriculum, inspire a love of language as part of their lifelong journey of learning.

It has been said that people who speak more than one language have improved memory, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, enhanced concentration, ability to multitask and listening skills. Pupils at Chapelford learn and explore the French language using ICT, participating in role play, completing translation activities, listening to music, playing games and much more. We stimulate and foster children's interest in languages by learning much more than simply lists of vocabulary. Language learning at Chapelford encourages children to take risks, have the confidence to 'give it a go' and more importantly, work together to achieve their learning goals
